Flipbooks Have Made A Comeback!

Did you know flip books were recognized as one of the earliest forms of what today is referred to as “interactive multimedia”? Flipbooks were first patented in the U.S. on May 16, 1882 by Henry Van Hovenbergh of Elizabeth, New Jersey. Early flip books consisted of simple drawings stacked in sequential stages of movement with a single staple binding. When the pages were flipped, they would create the optical illusion of motion.

Flipbooks were then popularized in the early 1900′s by the Cracker Jack Company who gave them away as free in-pack prizes. Other marketers soon followed suit, including manufacturers of breakfast cereals, bubble gum, cigarettes, automobiles and snack foods. The trend continued strong through the 1960′s. But unfortunately, that trend ended in the 1970′s as new technologies began to take the spotlight.

But now, flipbooks are back and better than ever! Go Festive offers the most engaging and entertaining flipbook experience. We’ve also created a process to make the design and production of flip books from live-action video footage easy and efficient. For an unforgettable moment, rent a Go Festive flipbook station now!

Photo Booths: Past to Present

Did you know the first photo booth appeared on Broadway in NYC? The awesome moment people spend making silly faces and waiting for a memorable photo strip dates all the way back to the roaring 20s. In the late September 1925 a man named Anatol Josepho brought the first photo booth studio over to the U.S. from Russia. When it was first open there were a procession of people all the way around the block waiting for their turn but luckily it was a 24 hour service. Customers would spend 25 cents each to pose in the booth and wait 8 minutes for their photos to process. At the Photomaton Studio, workers wore white smocks and gloves. They took customer’s money, suggested poses, cut the strips into individual photos if necessary and sold extras like frames and color tinting.

Since Photomaton Studio became such a huge sensation, in March 1927 a business consortium headed by Henry Morgenthau Sr., the former United States ambassador to Turkey and a founder of the American Red Cross, paid Mr. Josepho $1 million for the American rights of the photo booth. Soon Josepho became a millionaire for his creative invention of a chemical photo booth.

Even though old chemical booths are steadily being replaced by digital booths, Josepho has created an unforgettable tradition that is still being used today worldwide. Go Festive is a prime example of a company that keeps the photo booth tradition on-going. We offer elegant photo booths that are specifically built for event rentals. Whether the photo booth is rented for a wedding or a birthday party, you are guaranteed a good time.

American Wedding Traditions

Ever wonder where American wedding traditions come from? Since America is considered a melting pot, American weddings have been influenced practically by every country and culture on Earth.

American weddings are usually large and time-consuming affairs. When planning a wedding, brides and grooms often hire wedding planners to help organize the details of their “BIG day”. The wedding planner is usually hired by the bride since tradition is for the bride’s family to pay for the wedding. The wedding planner most likely will assist the bride with the organization of the wedding except the wedding vows. Wedding vows are written by the bride and groom to express their love and commitment to each other following the exchanging of rings.

Rings also play a significant role in the wedding. Did you know seventeen tons of gold are made into wedding rings each year in the United States? Many may also wonder why rings are worn on the left hand and not the right. This is an Egyptian wedding tradition. Engagement and wedding rings are worn on the fourth finger of the left hand because they believe that a vein in that finger leads directly to the heart.

A white veil worn on the head of the bride is a classic American wedding tradition. Ancient Greeks and Romans thought the veil protected the bride from evil spirits which is why brides have worn veils ever since.

When it comes to wedding ceremonies there are a wide variety of traditions welcomed into the United States no matter the religion or culture. Do you know of any wedding traditions that did not originate in the United States?
